Motorists traveling northbound on Georgia 400 to Windward Parkway received an early Christmas present from the City of Alpharetta on Monday night. City Council approved a nearly $5 million contract for the construction of an additional travel lane on the exit ramp west to Deerfield Parkway.
The 18-month construction project is a joint effort between the City, North Fulton Community Improvement District (CID), Fulton County, and the Georgia Department of Transportation.
The project, referred to as the Windward Triple Lefts Project, was originally approved in January 2015 but was stalled when construction bids came in nearly $1 million over budget. Increased construction activity and other factors had resulted in significant increases in the cost of concrete and labor since budget forecasts for the project had been calculated. Since that time, the North Fulton CID and Senator Brandon Beach have worked to secure additional funding for the project.
“This is a very important project, and we appreciate the efforts of Senator Beach and the CID in helping to secure the additional funding to bring it across the finish line,” said Mayor Pro Tem Donald Mitchell.
Construction on the Windward Triple Lefts Project will begin by Spring 2019.
